Preposition Combinations Part 2

  1.      Joanne Lewis has been known for her kindness.

  He’s known for his good looks.

  The region is known for its fine wines.

  My mom’s known for her tasty cooking.

  Lebanon is known for its beautiful weather and tasty food.

  Terry Fox was known for his courage.




  2.      New Canadians are sworn to be faithful to the sovereign Queen.

  You have to be faithful to your friends.

  Do you think Bob’s always faithful to you?

  I will always be faithful to my husband.

  She promised to be faithful to her husband until she died.




  3.      You can always count on him to lend you money.

  My little daughter is always counting on me.

  With luck, you might cover your costs but don’t count on it.

  The students are counting on their knowledge to pass (succeed on) the exam.

  My husband is counting on getting a promotion. 




  4.      People are prohibited from abusing children.

 Smoking is prohibited at the college.

 Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the factory.

 They’re prohibited from revealing details about candidates.

 People are prohibited from smoking inside the hospital.

 Employees are prohibited from parking in front of the building.




  5.      I am afraid of heights.

  The students were afraid of the grammar.

  I didn’t tell her because I was afraid of upsetting her.

  Kids are afraid of the dark.

  Children are afraid of being home alone at night.




  6.      I take good care of my relationships with others. 

  I always take good care of my children.

  Who’s taking care of the dog while we are away?

  I will take good care of my nephew when my sister leaves home.

        I am worried about the future of my career.

        I was worried sick about my brother.

        Every mother is always worried about her children’s health.

        I am afraid of losing my job.

  I don’t agree with the teacher’s strictness.

  I don’t agree with my husband’s decisions.

  Our teacher agrees with us that our classroom is very cold.

  The teachers agree with the new salaries.

  I decided on studying English.

  I have decided on a date to visit my family back home.

  I decided on the date of my vacation.




  10.  My friend voted for the conservative party.

  I vote for the Liberal party.

  People voted for Parliament members in the last election.

  I voted for the young candidate in the last council election.




  11.  My son was absent from the morning class.

  My husband was absent from the parents’ meeting.

  Sometimes, people are absent from their work because of sickness.

  Students who are regularly absent from school can fail their exams.




  12.  Students should be polite to their teacher.

  You have to be polite to your teacher.

  It’s not polite to leave home without telling your parents.

  I teach my kids to be polite to their teachers. 




  13.  I hope for a change in my studies this summer.

  I hope for peace all over the world.

  I hope for an excellent job.



  
  14.  Every resident should be aware of the fire exits.

        Students are aware of the rules of the college.

        The children should be aware of the dangers of taking drugs.

        I am aware of the decisions that I have made.

  I always fight for my rights.

  The Egyptians are fighting for their rights.

  In our life, we should fight for…

  Soldiers fought for the independence of Canada in the War of 1812.
